Charles Hoyt Watson served as the third president of Seattle Pacific College (now Seattle Pacific University). He was born in Kansas on December 12, 1888. He attended the University of Kansas and obtained a B.A. in 1918 and an M.A. in 1923. His presidential term at SPC lasted from 1926 to 1959, the longest of any president thus far. Orrin E. Tiffany joined the faculty of Whitworth College in 1926 as professor of history. He succeeded Professor H. L. Hussong as dean of the College in 1927. The Board named Tiffany acting president on July 22, 1927. His wife became the registrar. At the time Dr. Tiffany took over administrative leadership he disclaimed any ambitions for the presidency.
